Welcome to Jordan, cosmopolitan and contemporary, yet steeped in biblical history. On arrival at Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport, transferred to the hotel for our overnight stay.
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
This morning, embark on a visit to the Decapolis city of Um Qais, rich with basalt ruins and overlooking the Jordan Valley, Golan Heights and Lake Tiberius (the Sea of Galilee). Next, continue to the town of Ajlun, with its fortress and magnificent view into the Jordan Valley. Thereafter, proceed to Jerash, one of the best preserved Greco-Roman cities in the world for a visit before returning to Amman for our overnight stay.
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
After breakfast, visit the ruins of Amman’s Roman theatre, the Citadel, the Umayyad Palace and the Archaeological and Folklore museums. After lunch, move on to the lowest point on the surface of earth at the Dead Sea. Named for the dearth of life in its waters, this lake is so intensely salty that the density of the water makes swimming and getting underneath the surface very difficult. Upon arrival, you can go for a swim in its warm, salty waters.
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Drive south through the king’s way, an ancient route that still has marks left from traders, armies and pilgrims who crossed it centuries ago. Visit Mount Nebo, the site of the endearing monastery and onto the Christian Town of Madaba “The City of Mosaics“. Proceed to Kerak through Wadi Mujib, a deep valley featuring one of Jordan’s most breathtaking views. Thereafter, visit the Kerak castle with its diverse history dated from the Byzantine to the Mamluk period. Lastly, proceed on to Petra for overnight.
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
Petra is justifiably on most people’s list of ‘must-visit’ places. It is the jewel of Jordan, the lost city of the biblical Nabateans, an impressive series of tombs and dwellings hidden behind ornate facades. Dating back to the 6th century BC, the site was lost to Western minds until it was rediscovered in 1812. The iconic Petra view – the Treasury’s glorious facade, glimpsed from the narrow cleft known as the Siq – is arguably the single most striking sight of the entire region. Petra’s greatest surprise, however, is its size. With your guide you will explore the old Roman road, amphitheatre and several old tombs. You will also climb up to the second beautiful façade of the Monastery, from where you will have a magnificent view of the entire site. This is a memorable day exploring a truly extraordinary destination, a highlight of your trip. After the visit, rest of the day will be at your leisure – Tonight, perhaps take the chance to witness Petra by night at your own expenses.
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)
After breakfast, proceed to Beida, also known as Little Petra, the place where Nabateans used to entertain their guests. Continue south to the enchanting desert of Wadi Rum for a 4×4 jeep tour inside the Wadi. You will visit several of Wadi Rum’s distinctive rock formations and soak in the vast silence and spectacular desert landscapes. Wadi Rum is a truly beautiful place with towering sandstone mountains. Lastly, transfer to your traditional Bedouin camp situated deep within Wadi Rum. The Bedouins live in scattered camps throughout the area. You will enjoy an evening and stay with them at one of their camps, which is set in an amazing location.
(Breakfast/Dinner)
After breakfast, transfer back to Amman. Upon arrival, free at own leisure. You may want to walk the streets, where you’ll soon hear “Welcome to Jordan” from the locals. Maybe pick up a coffee from one of the cafés and partner it with an ara’yes, a toastie filled with spicy mincemeat.
