Welcome to Bucharest – the capital municipality, cultural, industrial, and financial centre of Romania. Upon arrival, our sightseeing tour will bring us to the largest building in Europe – Palace of Parliament, the Triumphal Arch, Revolution Square, Palace Square, Stavropoleos Church and the Old Centre to enjoy a nice walk before dinner.

This morning, continue our journey to Sibiu – a city which was named the European Capital of Culture in 2007 for its exquisite architecture. Upon arrival, enjoy a guided tour of the city with buildings dating back to the 12th century. Admire beautiful medieval buildings where passionate young lovers meet at Bridge of Lies, the 1st wrought iron bridge in Romania built in 1859. Enjoy some free time afterwards and check in to hotel for overnight stay.

Today, depart for Brasov via Sighisoara. We will continue our exploration of Transylvania region by driving towards Sighisoara – a UNESCO World Heritage landmark for being the last medieval city to be inhabited up to this day. Afterwards, continue to Brasov – a city surrounded by the Carpathian mountains and visit the Main City Square (Piata Sfatului) as well as the Black Church that got its name after a fire burnt its walls in 1689. Later, continue to the Bran Castle which is also known as the Dracula’s Castle. Rising above the town on a rocky promontory, Bran Castle holds visitors in thrall to this day with its rumoured connections to either the historical Vlad Ţepeş or fictional Bram Stoker’s vampires. The liberties taken with Bran’s reputation are quickly forgotten on a visit as you’ll climb up its conical towers, admiring views over thick forest and stroll through creaky-floored rooms furnished with bearskin rugs and 19th- century antiquity. Thereafter, retire to the hotel.

Today, we will drive back to Bucharest. You may wish to enjoy a free day at leisure or participate in an optional tour to one of the oldest city in Romania, Constanta.

Cross the Danube Bridge into Bulgaria to arrive in Ruse – a city on the south bank of the Danube and deemed “Little Vienna” for its imposing belle époque architecture. Arrive at the old Bulgarian capital – Veliko Tarnovo with stone houses perched one above the other on the steep banks of the meandering Yantra River. Continue to visit Tsarevets Hill where the walls of the restored medieval fortress rise above the city and surround the Patriarchal Church (a former Eastern Orthodox church) at its peak. Next, see blacksmiths, woodworkers and other craftsmen at work in the workshops along Artisans Street (or Samovodska Charshia) and shop for handicrafts at the bazaar. After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive through the Balkan Mountains across Shipka Pass to the Valley of Roses. Visit a Rose Oil Distillery where we will experience the traditional production of the famous Bulgarian rose oil, distillated from Rosa Damascena’s blossoms (Note: Visit is seasonal and entrance is subject to opening days/times, not available during winter from Nov to Mar). Thereafter, drive on to Sofia, the capital and largest city of Bulgaria for overnight stay.

This morning, partake on a guided sightseeing tour of the city center including a visit to Alexander Nevski Cathedral – one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in Europe. Later, visit the St Sofia Basilica and the St George Rotunda which dates back to the 6th and 4th century respectively. Continue to one of the most beautiful buildings in town National Theater “Ivan Vazov”, the former Royal Palace and the Ethnographic Museum. Thereafter, depart for Skopje – the capital city of Macedonia which was an important city for the Ottomans from the end of the 14th century. The Skopje today retains that influence and is a thriving modern city with the largest Turkish Bath in the Balkans located here and that which is now an Art Museum. We will also visit the old Turkish Bazaar and the National Museum. In the afternoon, some free time for you to explore this beautiful city yourself.
