(Breakfast/Dinner)
After breakfast, we shall bid farewell to Palermo as we continue to drive to Messina. The highlight of Messina is its 12th-century Duomo, clock tower and the piazza where they are both found. The cathedral was partially destroyed in World War II but has been restored and is lovely and the piazza is sometimes compared to Piazza San Marco in Venice. The rebuilt clock tower houses a unique mechanical clock installed in 1933 which has pictures and figures of animals and other storytelling devices that mark the hours of the day. There is movement every quarter hour but noon is when the astronomical clock really performs with all kinds of figures and symbols moving and the bells chiming at the same time—a true showstopper!
Today, transfer to Alberobello. Alberobello is a UNESCO World Heritage site – its narrow streets crowded with conical, white-washed trulli, clustered together like mushrooms, constructed entirely without mortar. This region is a paradise for wine-lovers so join an expert vintner with a tasting of Puglia’s most robust and structured reds wines – as rich and complex as anything you’ll find in Tuscany!
(Breakfast/Dinner)
This morning, we depart Aleberobello as we continue to journey to Sorrento. Free at own leisure upon arrival.
(Breakfast/Dinner)
This morning, we depart Sorrento as we continue to embark on an excursion by ferry to the Isle of Capri where we will enjoy a walking tour of Capri Town and Gardens, leaving us some time on our own to explore this lovely island. Thereafter, transfer to Rome for our overnight stay.
