Day 2ROME - PALERMO

Welcome to Rome, the Eternal City. Upon arrival, transfer to Palermo via domestic flight. Meet the Local Guide this afternoon for a sightseeing tour of Palermo. See The Opera House of Palermo and the Cathedral. Travel to the town of Monreale for views of La Conca d’Oro and explore the magnificent 12th century Norman Cathedral. Thereafter, retire for the day.

Day 3PALERMO - MARSALA - AGRIGENTO

(Breakfast/Dinner)
Departing from Palermo this morning, travel along the coast to Agrigento via Marsala. Known for its striking coastline of rocky outcrops and azure waters, Marsala boasts some of Sicily’s most impressive natural scenery. Next, continue to Agrigento, Agrigento is a hilltop city on Sicily’s southwest shore. It’s known for the ruins of the ancient city of Akragas in the Valley of the Temples, a vast archaeological site with well-preserved Greek temples. Today with your guide enjoy a tour of the Valley of the Temples, learning about the region’s Greek civilisation. Starting from the top of the complex, work your way down through the valley, stopping at each of the different temples in turn and learn about their unique histories.

Day 4AGRIGENTO - RAGUSA

(Breakfast/Dinner)
This morning head to Sicily’s beautiful south east. Levelled by an earthquake in 1693, the towns in the area were all completely rebuilt in striking Baroque style. The origins of Ragusa can be traced back to the 2nd millennium BC, when there were several Sicel settlements in the area. The current district of Ragusa Ibla has been identified as Hybla Heraea. The ancient city, located on a, 300-metre (980 ft) high hill, came into contact with nearby Greek colonies, and grew thanks to the nearby port of Camerina. Following a short period of Carthaginian rule, it fell into the hands of the ancient Romans and the Byzantines, who fortified the city and built a large castle. With your guide, explore the towns of Ragusa, learning about their fascinating history before heading to our hotel for the night.

Day 5RAGUSA - CATANIA

(Breakfast/Scicilian local Dinner)
After breakfast, we shall move on to Catania. Catania’s UNESCO-listed center is prized for its Baroque architecture and a walking tour of the city unveils an impressive array of Baroque churches, grand palazzo and lively piazza. Start out at the central Piazza Duomo, the masterpiece of acclaimed local architect Vaccarini, where you’ll find the elegant City Hall, the Cathedral of Sant’Agata and Giovanni Battista’s iconic Elephant fountain. From here it’s a short walk to the medieval Castello Ursino, the opulent Teatro Massimo Bellini and Via Crociferi, one of the city’s most picturesque Baroque streets, where you’ll also find the Vincenzo Bellini house museum and the Parco Archeologico Greco-Romano di Catania.

Day 6CATANIA - MESSINA - COSENZA

(Breakfast/Dinner)
After breakfast, we shall bid farewell to Catania as we continue to drive to Messina. The highlight of Messina is its 12th-century Duomo, clock tower and the piazza where they are both found. The cathedral was partially destroyed in World War II but has been restored and is lovely and the piazza is sometimes compared to Piazza San Marco in Venice. The rebuilt clock tower houses a unique mechanical clock installed in 1933 which has pictures and figures of animals and other storytelling devices that mark the hours of the day. There is movement every quarter hour but noon is when the astronomical clock really performs with all kinds of figures and symbols moving and the bells chiming at the same time—a true showstopper! Thereafter, transfer to Cosenza.

Day 7COSENZA - SALERNO - SORRENTO

(Breakfast/Dinner)
After breakfast, we shall leave Cosenza and continue our journey to Sorrento via Salerno. Sorrento is a coastal town in southwestern Italy, facing the Bay of Naples on the Sorrentine Peninsula. Perched atop cliffs that separate the town from its busy marinas, it’s known for sweeping water views and Piazza Tasso, a cafe-lined square.

Day 8SORRENTO - CAPRI - SORRENTO

(Breakfast/Dinner)
This morning, we depart Sorrento as we continue to embark on an excursion by ferry to the Isle of Capri where we will enjoy a walking tour of Capri Town and Gardens, leaving us some time on our own to explore this lovely island. Thereafter, we transfer back to Sorrento for our overnight stay.

The city of Pompeii was an ancient Roman town-city near modern Naples in the Italian region of Campania, in the territory of the comune of Pompei. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.Thereafter, move back to Rome for our overnight stay
