Our highlight for today is the Pushkin Museum, a fine arts centre, second in Russia only to the Hermitage in St Petersburg. After the Revolution of 1917, the Musuem was nationalized and its collection was greatly enriched by paintings from expropriated private collections, nationalized Moscow estates and abolished museums and galleries. Nowadays, there are over 560,000 works of art exhibited in the halls of the Musuem. Our next highlight is a visit to one of the famous Moscow Metro Station. These Metro Stations often known as the “Underground” palaces of Moscow is one of the most interesting attraction. The interiors of the metro stations exhibit almost royal splendors. Used in their decorations are more then twenty varieties of marbles coming from Urals, Altai and not forgetting Central Asia.
The magnificient festive looking halls and vestibules are adorned with sculptures, bas-reliefs, mosaics, paintings, stained glass panels and mural executed by artist. The Moscow Underground was designed and built by eminient Soviet architects who aimed not only at utility and comfort. Each station is also given an unique look. Thereafter, we shall visit the famous Arbat Street. It was here in 1611 that fierce fighting went on against the police force thrusting against the Kremlin. The troops commanded by Dmity Pozharsky stood here and Napoleon’s troops were retreating to Moscow by this street. This is also the street where Alexander Pushkin and his beautiful young wife once lived. Today, it is a busy street where the two sides of the street are flanked with architectural structures from the 19th Century. Not only that, you can do some shopping here as there are so many stalls selling souvenirs for you to choose from or you may want to have your own portrait drawn here. We round off the day with a Moscow Circus Performance (NB. Moscow Circus Performance is subject to availability and performance dates, in the event that there is no performance, we reserve the right to replace with other programs).
